A year ago, Flynn Cormac and Jubilee Chase made the now-infamous Avon Broadcast, calling on the galaxy to witness LaRoux Industries' corruption. A year before that, Tarver Merendsen and Lilac LaRoux were the only survivors of the Icarus shipwreck, forced to live a double life after their rescue.
Now, at the center of the galaxy on Corinth, all four are about to collide with two new players in the fight against LRI. Gideon Marchant is an underworld hacker known as the Knave of Hearts, ready to climb and abseil his way past the best security measures on the planet to expose LRI's atrocities. Sofia Quinn, charming con artist, can work her way into any stronghold without missing a beat. When a foiled attempt to infiltrate LRI Headquarters forces them into a fragile alliance, it's impossible to know who's playing whom--and whether they can ever learn to trust each other. With their lives, loves, and loyalties at stake, only by joining forces with the Icarus survivors and Avon's protectors do they stand a chance of taking down the most powerful corporation in the galaxy---before LRI's secrets destroy them all. The New York Times best-selling Starbound trilogy comes to a close with this dazzling final installment about the power of courage and hope in humanity's darkest hour.

PRAISE FOR THESE BROKEN STARS

PRAISE FOR THIS SHATTERED WORLD

"Kaufman and Spooner propose two well-developed protagonists and a well-rounded cast of supporting characters... Fans of the first book, as well as those who like impossible romance between two people on opposing sides, will enjoy this sequel."―VOYA

PRAISE FOR THIS SHATTERED WORLD

"Kaufman and Spooner prove that their first brilliant installment was no fluke with this strong second outing. They provide complex characters and a situation with no simple solution. There is action, a spark of romance, and a mystery, all set on a fully-realized planet. This should have broad appeal among teen and adult science fiction readers."―School Library Journal

PRAISE FOR THIS SHATTERED WORLD

"The authors' world building, their ability to combine unique and familiar themes, their talent for sustaining dual voices in the midst of romance and tension create a companion series that promises another world, another adventure, and, if we're lucky, another set of lovers, this time on Corinth."―Booklist

PRAISE FOR THESE BROKEN STARS

"Kaufman and Spooner's debut collaboration is a stunning, gorgeously imagined romance with epic sweep, brimming with lush detail of setting and intricate character study. It's the kind of read to savor, but the survivalist plotting still rushes the reader to keep turning pages."―Ingram Library Group

I'll miss this world!
By Jessie Potts
Why you should read it: First off, this series is epic, it’s one of my favorite YAs and a great sci-fi series. Fans of the first two books will love that all the previous heroes and heroines get stage time in this one, which I have to say that as a die-hard Tarver fan, I was so psyched! And, yes, I know I sound very fangirl, but the audio versions are amazing as well, with each book getting two new narrators to really tell the characters’ stories. This time it’s Kim Mai Guest and MacLeod Andrews to bring Sofia and Gideon to life. It’s already pre-ordered, and I eagerly wait. Overall, this is a great ending (no!!), and the world is so big I hope we’ll get to visit it again later. There’s also a No. 1.5 installment called This Night So Dark, which gives us more Tarver and Lilac love. All in all, if you haven’t already read this series, start with These Broken Stars. It’s one of the most interesting and entertaining series I have read!

INTERVIEW WITH AMIE AND MEAGAN

Tell us about this new couple, Sofia and Gideon.

A & M: OK, here goes.

Their Fractured Light is the story of Gideon and Sofia and finally brings the reader to Corinth, the capital of the galaxy. He’s a hacker, and she’s from the planet Avon, which was the setting for book two in the series. We first met Gideon as the Knave of Hearts, a hacker employed in This Shattered World. We first met Sofia on the planet Avon, where she helped hide Flynn from the soldiers. But both of them have ties that go further back than that, even if they don’t yet know it.

They’re both criminals — trust comes hard for them, for very good reason, and they both do things in this book that makes it even harder for them to pin their hopes on the other. Ultimately, their fate will rest on their ability to make that leap of faith.

And for those readers who want to know if they’re going to see characters from past books in Their Fractured Light, the answer is a huge YES. You’ll see plenty of them — everything in the series so far has been leading to this moment, which means we’re going to need everyone on deck! Everything that’s happened so far in the series will take on new layers and meaning by the end of this book.

Your covers are so beautiful. Did you guys have any input?

Over the last year I have been amazed by the epicness of the Starbound series
By Tracy @ Cornerfolds
Over the last year I have been amazed by the epicness of the Starbound series. I started with These Broken Stars at the beginning of the year and was just blown away. I laughed, I cried, and I didn't think any other book in the series could live up to it. I was kind of right. Book two, while also amazing, wasn't quite -as- good as the first. Still, I really loved the story and characters. Now it's on to book three and I was really hopeful for an amazing ending to an amazing series!

Their Fractured Light was kind of a unique book in the series. While both of the first two books were mostly focused on one couple, this one was very evenly split between a new romance and the two old ones. While this does appear to be Sofia and Gideon's story on the surface, it wasn't quite. Sofia and Gideon are the primary focus of about the first half of Their Fractured Light. Sofia is a con artist and Gideon is a hacker and they are honestly adorable together. Unfortunately, I didn't connect with them on the same level as I did Lilac and Tarver, or even Jubilee and Flynn.

I think my primary issue with Sofia and Gideon is that they didn't have nearly as much time to grow to love each other. It seemed that they went very quickly from completely distrusting each other and never planning to see each other again to being in love. It just wasn't quite believable enough for me. That being said, they both had very interesting backstories and were very sympathetic characters. I also enjoyed how their stories connected to the other books in the series.

The final installment of the Starbound series nicely wraps up the mystery of the whispers. I really enjoyed reliving certain aspects of the first two books in the series from the whispers' perspective. I hadn't anticipated coming to care very much about the whispers as characters, but that's exactly what ended up happening.

Obviously all four characters from the earlier books were present in the last half of this book and I loved ever second of having them back! My biggest disappointment after reading These Broken Stars was not having Tarver and Lilac in the books, but they were a huge part of this one, and it was amazing! Lilac's relationship to the whispers is a major plot point in this one and it was super interesting to see how that all played out.

This book is action start to finish (so basically like the other two). There were a few lags that really slowed down the reading for me, but the abundance of action made up for those. The mission to destroy LaRoux Industries and the man at the helm was a big part of the story and the main point that brings Sofia and Gideon together. LaRoux has been such a villain from the beginning of the series, so it was obviously great to see someone go after him with a vengeance!

One of the things I really liked was getting to explore the amazing city on the planet of Corinth. I honestly can't quite picture it in my head, but it sounds incredible! There's an upper city and a lower city and it kind of reminds me of The Fifth Element, but I wish I had a picture! Fan art, anyone?

Overall, I thought this was a great end to the series and it wrapped everything up in such an amazing, interconnected way! My main complain is the way the relationship between Sofia and Gideon was sped up to the point of not being believable. Although neither of the subsequent books lived up to These Broken Stars, this was a completely amazing, incredibly unique series! I'm not normally a huge fan of sci-fi, but these books made me a believer! The Starbound trilogy is definitely a must-read and I recommend it to basically every reader I know!

Epic
By Lexxie
Their Fractured Light definitely brings the Starbound story full circle. And it’s a story of true hope, hope for humankind, for love, and for faith. I think I really needed this kind of story right now, too. Where choices are important, and where making the right choice can be the most difficult situation of them all.

The whole Starbound series has had me completely starstruck! This dystopia set several hundred years in the future, and where some of the characters have had to make some very difficult choices brought many important issues to my mind. In Their Fractured Light, the main characters from the prior books were all present, as were Sofia and Gideon whom I only remember meeting briefly before. The main themes in Their Fractured Light is hope and trust. It is what both Sofia and Gideon need the most of in order to move forward with their lives, to possibly save Corinth, and to have all the possibilities they both deserve.

To keep my review spoiler-free, I can only say that the intricate relationships between the characters we have already met, and the whispers, who have their own voice in Their Fractured Light, are very well done. Recognizing something in each of the characters as well as in the whispers made the story come to life for me in a strong way. And I really enjoyed the different characters’ reaction towards each other as they realized their paths might have crossed in the past.

Hope and trust is something we all may have struggle with, at least sometimes, and Sofia and Gideon especially had almost lost hope, and had great difficulty trusting anyone – even themselves in some situations. Because they had been alone for a while, partly because of those trust issues, having to count on someone else made things very difficult for them at times. And I think that especially nowadays, with so many horrible things happening around the world, being able to still have hope for the future, and making the right choices is very important. This is something that resonanted very strongly with me while reading.

Written in dual points of view, one chapter from Sofia’s perspective, the next from Gideons, and with the whispers also sharing their reflections at the beginning of each chapter, I felt like a got a much better grasp of everything in Their Fractured Light than I did in the prior installments. And the way both the overall storyline, the main and the sub-plots were brought together to bring the series full circle made for an adventure of truly epic proportions. Showing that both the whispers and the human characters had some very important choices to make, choices that seemed to be very personal at a first glance, but that had implications for so many people once the effects of that choice settled.

Perfectly weaving the various characters and their paths towards each other, while continuing with the flawless world-builing and urgent feeling following Sofia and Gideon everywhere, Their Fractured Light touched me deeply, and I know I will revisit Starbound sooner rather than later. And I can’t wait to see what Spooner and Kaufman will come up with next – their partnership when it comes to writing is mind-blowing!
