Not to be taken seriously

This novel is so poorly written, I don't know where to begin. A good editor, or any sort of editor, might have helped, although her task would have been monumental. The setting, a sitting woman president in the White House, is rich with possibilities, but this writer gives the reader absolutely zero feel for what the presidency might be like for that character. The character, Kate, comes across as very one-dimensional. In fact, the reader feels as though she hardly knows Kate at all, and that's regretful. As for the Secret Service Agent, she is an obsessive stalker who stares, drools and lusts after her protectee. Not realistic in the slightest! If an agent were really like that, well, she'd be in therapy and she certainly wouldn't be protecting the president. If you read past the first few pages of this book, you deserve a prize. Give it a pass.

I'm a voracious reader of books in this genre but while I love the increased exposure that Amazon is giving self-publishers via Kindle, they can be hit or miss... even those with several "positive" user reviews. In the past, I could rely on Amazon user reviews to steer me more often than not in the direction of a good read. However, it appears that more and more "dubious" reviews are popping up, particularly for "bargain" Kindle books.
So as an Amazon customer who relies on user reviews, I feel the need to warn other potential readers from heeding the "rave reviews" on this one. The protagonists basically fall in love in one chapter, it's hard to take the romance seriously... much less the character who is supposed to be the first female U.S. President. Moreover, the writing just didn't flow well. There are so many better books in this sub-genre (secret service/bodyguard falling for their charge), there's not reason to endure this one... Try Above All, Honor or The Candidate instead.

Very amateurish.

This book started out as an actual fan fiction for Grey's Anatomy w/ Callie Torrez as the fbi agent and Arizona as the president. At first I did not realize it of course so I'll give you my impression of the first chapter or so. It's pretty amateurish. The conversations are drab and predictable and .. it's just not that great. One of the BIGGEST issues of this story is that it DOES come from a fanfiction. The point of a fanfiction is that the audience already knows the characters. They know perky blonde arizona. It steals someone else's characters, already established personalities and looks so that there is really no reason to describe them. That's a HUGE problem in this story. There is no real description of what these characters really look like, why they are the way they are, etc. I don't condemn a fanfiction writer from making a little money, hell i'm alll for it. But at least realize that these are not your own characters and you'll need to do a bit more work to give the reader a picture of the characters you are taking out of their element. It's lazy and disastrous.
