A must have for homeschooling

I purchased both the teachers edition and the students edition. If you are teaching Algebra this is the series you need. This is Algebra that will prepare the advanced student for college level mathematics. This is the most recommend series for high schoolers to grasp all the knowledge they need for this course. I originally purchased the workbooks that went along with the books, but you do not need them. Get the teachers book and the students, and then you have online access (even if you buy used) to the Pearson (PHSchool) site with worksheets and games for additional learning.

Helps me validate my son's homework

My son is in 7th grade.
I like to validate his homework answers after he is done with his homework.
The fact that there are answers in the book is worth its weight in gold.
He gets about 150 homeworks in a school year. I have saved man days in manual work over 1 year.

Another important theme is that although neuropsychological and experimental research on adult comprehension provides useful concepts and methods for assessing comprehension, it should be applied with caution, because a sequential, bottom-up information processing model of comprehension is ill-suited to the developmental context.

Although the main focus of the book is on research and theory, rather than practical matters of assessment and intervention, the theoretical framework presented in the book will continue to help clinicians develop a clearer understanding of what comprehension involves, and how different types of difficulty may be pin-pointed.

Amazing sequel!!

I could not wait for the release of Scandalous 2! Like most, I fell in love with Jack and Abby in the first book of the series. Wondering if the second book would be as great as the first....I could not wait to see what was in store for this delicious duo. HM Ward did NOT disappoint!!

We begin right where the first installment left off.....Jack and Abby are on their honeymoon. It's their last day of paradise and Jack has made special plans for them. Unbeknownst to Abby, there is `trouble' brewing back home. Jack wants their last night to be a memorable one. After a dinner in a very special restaurant, the two share in several delicious fantasies.

Once they return home, the couple is thrust into the turmoil surrounding Jack's artwork and business. One of the `hate groups' has set its sites on destroying Jack's reputation. The protestors are coming our in full force at Jack's exhibits - as well as the gallery. Not only are they determined to crush Jack's career, they now blame him for Abby's `fall from grace'. They blame him for Abby leaving the church,, breaking her vows, and marrying Jack. The protestors are at `the boiling point'.

Jack takes the statements to heart. Once again, he stops communicating with Abby. In the meantime, Abby is trying to fill the void that leaving the ministry has left her with. One of my favorite books is Scandalous 1. So When I heard book 2 was coming I was excited but nervous too. Cause really I love Jack and Abby in book one. They became part of my reading family. Read the book so many times, I could qoute it. I was a little worried on how Book 2 could live up to Book 1.
NO NEED TO WORRY!!!
Book 2 is just as great as one. I really did not think my love affair with Jack could get any better. WRONG!! I am now officially obsessed with Jack. He is so in love with Abby, but he feels so bad for making her fall. Sexy and Sweet all rolled in to one beautiful package that is Jack!

Jack and Abby together are just pure magic! Throw in two devoted best friends, crazy stalkers, and hot sensual love scenes and you have one truly FUN FANTASTIC READ!

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK!

If you are looking for a good series that doesn't leave you feeling bad look no further. One thing I like about the first book was that even though it was a series it didn't leave you strung out waiting for the next book in the series. Intense and emotional yes. I enjoyed both of these!

falling in love with a hobo girl

F/F general fiction, young adult, side of romance

This is the story about a girl named Zac who is basically stranded in the "wild" as a young teen after her father dies. She lives in the woods alone and spends time "riding the rails" for the next 14 years. A magical connection brings her back to Maine's Wachiva Forest and there she is reunited with the straight blonde she met when she was around 6 yrs old... her soulmate, apparently. Straight blonde is now a college girl in Boston. Initially from Connecticut, she comes up to Maine to spend time at the family cabin. Their reunion moves her to reach out to hobo girl and she ultimately offers a good bath and help reintegrating into society.

Forget Victor, Nell, and even Lucan. This is the poorly developed and implausible lesfic rendition of the "Wild Child." She's somewhat socially inept with questionable familiarity with modern conveniences, but far from wild. Just a homeless girl with an unfortunate name, really.

I think the author lost me at Zac and Abel. What horrible names for female leads. Abel is a pretty blonde- why would you do that to your pretty blonde? At one point Abel's father says, "And what the hell kind of name is Zac for a girl, anyway?" LOL. I kept waiting for someone to point out their own daughter's name... no punchline. Um, okay. The other problem with giving two poorly developed leads with no chemistry masculine names is that it took me a while to tell them apart. Annoying.

Way too many implausibilities. Zac is hopping trains for years throughout the country and manages to steal books from libraries. She knows what BIODEGRADABLE means and even makes a Wild Child history allusion about herself, yet she is clueless about tin foil, shampoo, and toilet paper. What?! lol. Only a (granola) lesbian would make that implausible mistake, lol. (I laughed out loud when Zac wants to recycle the tin foil, lol.) And how is it that Zac is the only homeless person who doesn't stink? C'mon. She poops in the woods and doesn't use toilet paper. She's gonna stink!!

I want to say this story was bad enough to have some comedic value. Nope. Only when you tell someone about it, lol. The actual read is pretty slow and boring and goes on forever at 454 pages. Technically, the writing wasn't bad. As in these authors can put coherent sentences together without typos (though the weird use of names and descriptors as pronouns is an atrocious ear-molesting flaw common of fanfic writers).

But the storytelling could use a lot of work. I never once cared for these leads. Nothing interesting was done with this romance. No chemistry or sexiness (I've already forgotten the sex scenes). I'm not even sure why Zac is obsessed with someone she met when she was 6 and then did nothing about it for 14 yrs. Who even remembers BEING ALIVE when they were 5 or 6?!?! Let alone finding your soulmate then. It read like a YA novel and the dialogue was simplistic... "dark-skinned" Jessica's dialogue was especially painful and cliche. No survivalist detail and no real detail about illegally traveling on trains. I mean, do homeless people still get away with that??? How about if you're a girl?? It's not 1902. I've read hobo culture has seen its demise since modern train cars are built differently now.

Good story idea. Silly execution. If you're going to join the 9.99 price fixing bandwagon in lesfic (thanx, Rad).... DO SOME DAMN RESEARCH, PLEASE.

Anywho. Not recommended for the thinking reader... my overall rating is also rather generous.

Awesome - Just Awesome

I loved, loved, loved it. Trying to find the words is difficult. I know I will be reading this again and again. I loved Abel and Zac. I loved how long the story was and the way the story unfolded. Zac won my heart and I loved how Abel took care of her. I only wished I could of seen more of the time in Boston and more of Zac's experiences learning her new environment and taking her life in her hands. I highly recommend this book. A sweet, romantic love story, that is well written. The story was not rushed and the relationship progressed beautifully. I found myself rooting for the couple and enjoyed when it finally happened. Well done Ladies. - So for everyone else.....Go read this book - you will not regret it.

When Abel Cohen (Spinney) was six years old, she got lost in the woods surrounding her parents vacation cabin in Maine. Zac Lipton, a girl slightly older than Abel, finds her wandering around and helps her find her way back home. Zac has lived in the woods all her life and knows every inch of them. The two young girls become firm friends and play together every day over the summer, enjoying carefree laughter, adventures and spinning. The summer came to an end and the girls didn't meet again until fourteen years later.

Abel couldn't remember Zac, but after a shaky beginning, they embark on a firm friendship, strengthening their feelings from the past, as Abel gradually begins to remember the summer spent with Zac.

Abel introduces Zac into her modern day world. A world that Zac has never been in. Zac teaches Abel all about her world, the big outdoors.

Both women explore not only their different worlds, but the growing feelings they have for each other.

When Abel has almost finished with college, she knows her visits to the cabin are going to be infrequent, if she visits at all. Will this be the end of their friendship? Or will Abel be able to talk Zac into moving to Boston to be with her? Zac has never lived in a big city. Will she choose to stay in her beloved woods? Or will she follow her heart and Abel?

This story grabbed me right from the very first page and held me captivated right until the very last page. Although this book is a nice lengthy one, I still hadn't had enough and wanted to see much more from these characters, so much so, that a sequel would be very welcome.

Both Abel and Zac are multidimensional and so vastly different. Abel has grown up having every modern convenience, while Zac has basically lived in the wild without really knowing much about civilization, let alone every day modern conveniences and technology. But, do two people have to be similar or the same to be soul mates? The answer is no. Not if you believe in true love and the concept of having a soul mate.

This book starts out when Abel and Zac were young, they didn't meet again for many years. Where as Abel had forgotten about Zac, Zac had always remembered Abel, Spinney as she was nicknamed back then. As the story unfolds, we read about how they meet again and get to know one another all over again. I don't want to add in any spoilers, but suffice it to say, that I found the story fascinating.

This book is very well written and has highs and lows of emotions and is very sad in parts, although there is a lot of happiness and laughter throughout too. As the story moves forward, it's good to see how Zac is integrated into the Cohen family and comes to accept that they are not out to harm her and how she goes from being a recluse into actually enjoying the company of others. We follow her as she learns all about living in the world of people, rather than the world of her forest with just animals for company. Zac's only experience outside of the forest was spent `riding the rails'. But she rarely encountered many people, so didn't learn to interact with them. We also see how Abel learns all about Zac's world too. How two so very different worlds collide and hopefully, Zac will become as comfortable in both worlds as Abel is.

This is a book that I'll be reading again. I'm now looking forward to more from both Kim Pritekel and Alex Ross.

About the Author
Lee B. Burgunder is professor of law and public policy at California Polytechnic State University, where he has been teaching for 25 years. Professor Burgunder is recognized as a "Distinguished Teacher" at Cal Poly, and is a pioneer in developing technology law courses for undergraduate and graduate programs. He has published numerous articles on intellectual property and technology law issues, and served as co-chair of the technology law section within the Academy of Legal Studies in Business. Professor Burgunder received his law degree and M.B.A. from Stanford University, and practiced law at Patton, Boggs in Washington, D.C., prior to entering academia.

Poorly Updated; Poorly Edited

I purchased this book for a class, and so far I am very disappointed in this book. For being a recent edition, some of the information is very out of date. For example, the book references BountyQuest as a means of searching for prior art in patents, yet fails to realize that the BountyQuest website shut down in 2002 (remember, this edition of the book was (c) 2010). Also, I'm only 4 chapters in and I have already found some glaring spelling and editing errors in the book ("little" spelled "lilttle").

The text of the book is well-written and easy to understand, but better editing and updating would have made me a much more satisfied purchaser.

Update: Also found "Mastercard" spelled "Matercard." Whoops...

Good awareness of issues involving law, technology, and society

This book is the main text for the "Legal Issues in Technology" (SEIS 650) class I am taking this fall at the University of Saint Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota.

It gives one a general overview of intellectual property rights from a technology perspective in the United States, and to some extent in the international space. In particular, one gets a basic understanding of key legal issues surrounding the protection of trade secrets, copyrights, patents, trademarks, and contractual rights pertaining to computer technology and the internet.

This is done through the study of several well written and summarized descriptions of past and current legal cases and decisions made in the United States court system, and also from the perspective of a hypothetical company CoolEdge that is the business of selling an exercise machine called Optimizer. One thing that is made very apparent is the constantly evolving nature of legal constructs and policies, and how they have had to continuously adapt along with changing aspects of technology in the United States and the rest of the world.

All of this covered in 14 chapters and 644 pages, plus two more online - which we did not cover in class. This is a general education book and very well meets it's goal of leaving the reader with an excellent understanding of the various legal issues raised by computer technology. Also with an awareness and need for everyone involved in high technology enterprises to keep abreast of developments in these areas as we continue going about meeting our business and societal goals. If there was something I did not like about the book, is that it did not have questions at the end of each chapter to test and improve one's grasp of concepts and issues discussed, or a list of further readings and references.

The file is almost unreadable on my kindle because it will not aallow me to enlarge the font. Reading it on a computer is ok but a pain in the butt.

Misrepresented

As the caption states - "Complete set of 10, 8.0 Edition" - only it is not 8.0 the latest edition. Instead it is a mixed collection of older versions dating back to 5, 4 and 7 editions compiled to make a complete set.

Five volumes in the set are older than the current 8.0 edition.

A great debut -- fast, fun, and imaginative!

The size of the electronic gaming market is well over $50 Billion and some significant and growing portion of that is due to the engaging, social segment known as multiplayer online gaming. Shepherd Moon perfectly captures why these games are so compelling. Cooper's book is immersive, surprising, and fun. I absolutely enjoyed it and can't wait to read the next installment(s)!

This book is everything you'd expect in the fresh breakout LitRPG genre: It explores a fictional world that's done in imaginative detail; it's creative; and it's a page turner. There's a reason why this genre has exploded in other parts of the world and is gaining traction in the West. I think Cooper's effort here will take its place at the forefront of that popularity surge -- and deservedly so.

In my grasping for a higher compliment to convey, the only thing that comes to mind is: This story makes me wish I could go out and buy (and begin playing) this game! I've given authors five stars for experiences I didn't relish as much as the immersive fun this book provided. If you're at all a gamer (and probably even if you're not), you will have fun reading this book -- whether you're 16, 60, or somewhere in between.

Pleasant, Immersive, Hard To Put Down

A MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) game can be like an alternative life, the more immersive the game the more true this is. The author captures this concept and presents it like a master... no doubt in part for his long time profession creating and managing this type of game world. The possibilities are endless.

Worth going outside your comfort zone for!

I must first state that I am neither a science fiction fan; nor am I a Gamer in any sense of the word. I have, however, been an avid reader my entire life. My genre is normally historical based novels. Secondly, I will acknowledge that I am acquainted with Mr Cooper, and have known him for many years. I acquired this book mainly out of curiosity, and without Mr Cooper's knowledge so that, if I did not like it, I could quietly say nothing.
I was not in any way prepared for how much I enjoyed Shepherd Moon. Gary writes with an confident style that is easy to read, and encourages the reader to concentrate on events occuring that will affect the main character, Duncan. I was quickly drawn into the story of a man being introduced into a new worldwide game that has more levels than Gary could have possibly covered in one volume. So far as character develpopment, Duncan is the only character that even comes close to 3 dimensional. This is okay, though, because many of the characters online are best represented by two dimensions, and some may even be computer generated one dimensional beings. The reader, along with Duncan, will have to find out as the game progresses who is real and who is a programmed part of the game.
I have no doubt that Gamers and SciFi readers will enjoy this book, but, I would encourage others like myself to give it a chance. I think you may be pleasantly surprised.
In conclusion, even though Shepherd Moon is WAY outside my normal book subject choice, I applaud Gary for a job well done, and anxiously await the next installment in this series.
